In memory of Dr. Tomisaku Kawasaki from Ho-Chang Kuo in Taiwan

I (Dr. Ho-Chang Kuo) met Dr. Kawasaki first time in Taiwan during the 2008 IKDS. Dr. Kawasaki showed his great happiness to have such a young doctor (35 years-old in 2008) willing to focus on the research field of KD and encouraged me so much. Dr. Kawasaki is truly a good scholar and mentor for me.

I published 3 Kawasaki disease books (as attached photos) at Taiwan that were written in Chinese and specific for parents. I met Dr. Kawasaki as the second time at Hawaii (the 2015 IKDS) and brought the KD books to Dr. Kawasaki. He was really moved to appreciate our works for caring patients and parents of KD so he signed on the books and gave some words of encouragement. In the help of Dr. Kawasaki, I set up the first KD out-patient clinic, Kawasaki disease center, Taiwan Kawasaki disease Parents Association, Kawasaki disease admission ward, KD Line stickers, KD Facebook fans group, and KD books publications at Taiwan. The most important thing that I learned from Dr. Kawasaki was perseverance. Even though it has been 50 years since Kawasaki disease was discovered, the etiology of Kawasaki disease is still a mystery.
Dr. Kawasaki said that continuous research can prevent children from injury of Kawasaki disease. This make me to work all the harder to solve the difficult problem of aneurysm treatment and molecular diagnosis of Kawasaki disease. I will honor his memory by continuing our research and caring work on KD, and never forget Dr. Kawasaki.

In memory of Dr. Kawasaki, we raised a memory report including 10 major researchers from Taiwan and Japan that was published on Medicine News Weekly on July 20th 2020.
