The Everlasting Memory of Dr. Kawasaki

Assist. Prof. Suthep Wanitkun, MD

Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital,
Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand
President of the Society of Pediatric Cardiology of Thailand,
Chief, Division of Pediatric Cardiology

We are all very sorry to hear that Professor Tomisaku Kawasaki passed away last June. This is a huge loss to the Kawasaki disease specialist community. I firstly met Prof. Kawasaki during the gala dinner of the 7th IKDS back in December 2001 in Hakone. He was charismatic, respectable, motivating, and very nice to people all around. We had a brief talk and he recognized my Mahidol University. IKDS is a unique and enjoyable meeting that gathers all experts caring for patients affected by Kawasaki disease. I remembered Prof. Kawasaki; always together with his wife, would tirelessly attend most of the presentations in the symposium. The last time I met Prof. Kawasaki was at 12th IKDS in Yokohama. On behalf of the Society of Pediatric Cardiology of Thailand, our heartfelt condolences go out to Kawasaki family and the Japan Kawasaki Disease Research Center. He will live on in our memories forever.
